In short
- The first defeat leads to the losers bracket, the second is the end.
- Number of games without byes: 2 × n − 2. Four teams: 6, eight: 14, sixteen: 30. Plus possibly a second final.
- If the winner of the losers round wins the final, the bracket reset follows because then both have a loss.
Two trees
The winning round is a normal knockout. The losers of each round move to the losers round and continue playing there. Whoever loses in the loser's bracket is out. Two defeats, no matter which round was the first.
Eight teams, full power of two: 14 games. The formula without byes is 2 × n − 2. Four teams are 6 games, 16 teams are 30. That is exactly twice as many as in the simple knockout. with n − 1 games.
The final and the second final
The winner of the winners' round and the winner of the losers' round advance to the final. One is still undefeated, the other has a defeat. If the undefeated player wins, the tournament is over: the other player then suffers his second defeat.
If the winner of the loser's bracket wins, both players lose. Then there is a second final, the Bracket Reset. It can be ticked in the tournament tree and is only played when it is needed. Without him, one defeat would be worth more than another.
Byes and seeding
Six teams will be filled to eight spots. Two teams have a bye in the first round and go directly to round two. A bye is not a game.
The order of the names is the seeding: the first name is seed 1 and meets the last one in round one. Shuffle randomly with one click. There is no seeding list based on Elo or a connection to an association.
