Basketball tournaments and 3x3, court by court.

Typical format

3x3 to 21, or five-a-side

Scoring

2 for a win, 1 for a loss

Match length

10 min, or 4 short quarters

How you set up the basketball tournament

2 for a win, 1 for a loss

In setup, set a win to 2 and a loss to 1. Leave the draw at 0. Tie-breakers: points, point difference, points scored. You enter the final score, such as 21:16 or 68:61. A cap on the difference is not applied. After overtime, enter the score after overtime.

Courts and the slot

Each hoop is its own field, in the gym or in the park. For 3x3, set the slot closer to 15 minutes than to the raw 10, so a tied-game overtime does not collide with the next tip-off. Age groups go in their own divisions and share the courts.

Typical tournaments

01

3x3 in the park or the hall

Each hoop a field, a slot of about 15 minutes, and the table on 2 and 1 plus point difference.

02

School and youth tournament

One division per age group. The hall display shows the table. Officials enter scores from the court.

03

Season opener

Groups, then a final in the evening. Each court is a field, and the final gets its own slot.

How to set it up

Four steps and the basics are in place.

  1. 1

Set a win to 2 points and a loss to 1. Leave the draw at 0. There will not be one.

  2. 2

Tie-breakers: points, then point difference, then points scored.

  3. 3

Add each court as a field. A hoop in the park counts the same as a court in the gym.

  4. 4

For 3x3, set the slot closer to 15 minutes than to the raw 10, so overtime does not collide with the next tip-off.

Basketball tournament questions

How do I set the table points?

In setup: 2 for a win, 1 for a loss, 0 for a draw. A loss worth 0 changes the order. Games do not end level, so the draw stays unused.

How long should a 3x3 slot be?

Closer to 15 minutes than to the raw 10. The changeover and a possible overtime have to fit. Each hoop is its own field.

What do I enter after overtime?

The score that ended the game, not the score when regulation time ran out. The table uses that number for the difference.

Is there a cap on the point difference?

No. You enter the real score. A youth rule that caps the difference is something you apply before you type the number in.

Can several age groups share the courts?

Yes. One division per age group, with its own groups. They share the fields you added.
