How you set up the esports tournament

Online: scoring and rounds

In setup, pick Esports and set the type to Online so the event shows up as online in filters. The field planner stays on. You enter the final score, such as 2:0 in a best of 3. Keep scoring on points: a win is 1, a loss is 0, and there are no ties. Tiebreakers: points, head-to-head, point differential. If you count maps, switch scoring to sets and enter maps won, such as 2:1.

A LAN, and what does not fit

When everyone is in the same room, leave the type on site. Each PC is a field, and the planner places the matches on them. There is no sync with a game. Lobby, veto and kills stay in the game. Under Structure you pick groups, a single-elimination bracket, double elimination or Swiss. In Swiss you pair each next round yourself once the results are in.

Typical tournaments

01

Online cup

Teams sign up, play the groups, then the bracket. The tournament page shows the next round and the standings.

02

Community night

Each player is a team. Eight players, everyone plays everyone, and the standings are the result.

03

LAN

Leave the type on site. Each PC is a field. The planner puts matches on the stations, and the display in the room shows who is next.

How to set it up

Four steps and the basics are in place.

  1. 1

Set the sport to Esports. For a remote event, set the type to Online. Fields and the field planner stay available.

  2. 2

In singles, each player is a team. In the team event, the squad has the names on the roster.

  3. 3

Add groups and a bracket after them. Win 1, loss 0, tie 0.

  4. 4

For a best of 3, switch scoring to sets and enter the map score, such as 2:1.

Esports tournament questions

Do I enter kills or rounds?

No. The match score, such as 2:0. Kills, objectives and rounds stay in the game.

Is there double elimination?

Yes, and Swiss as well. Add either under Structure. Double elimination has a losers bracket. Swiss pairs the next round once the current one is complete. There is still no sync with the game.

Does it pull the result from the game?

No. When the match is over, you enter the score. There is no sync with a game.

Can I run a LAN?

Yes. Set the type to on site so the LAN shows up in that filter. Add each PC as a field, and the field planner sets the times. Online does not hide the planner.

Can players see the next round?

Yes. The tournament page runs in the browser and shows the schedule and the standings. They do not install an app.

Set up your first tournament. Up to eight teams it costs nothing.
